Aram 2018
ARAM is an Overseas Community Involvement Programme by NTU TLS every year. We have been doing this for the past three years targeting a region in India, Tamil Nadu called Thirunelveli. In this beautiful place, there is a non-profit organisation called Social Change and Development (SCAD) which helps various communities within Tamil Nadu. One of such villages in Tamil Nadu includes the Gypsy Village. This community is one that is less developed and the social culture there focuses little on education and business that is key to the development of small communities like them. Hence, SCAD has built a school for these children to help educate them so that they can progress over the next few generations.
However, considering the low attendance rate and interest level in schools, we created a toy library within the school to better motivate them to come to school. Moreover, the toy library also offers an opportunity for the kids to approach education in a more fun and engaging way. The toy library was very well received by the children. The satisfaction that we gained as we watched the kids happily explore the toy library was beyond description with words.
We may have faced many challenges throughout this trip. It was all very unexpected and rather mentally draining. However, we were all determined to make this event happen. Hence, we stayed focused and came up with many creative ways to make our dream come true. Nevertheless, the difficulties and stress that we encountered was nothing compared to the smiles, love and affection that we received from the children.
The trip was indeed very meaningful and each of us will always treasure these beautiful memories.
அறம், அன்பை விதைப்போம்! அரவணைப்போம்!
தமிழுக்காக, சமூகத்திற்காக நமது தமிழ் இலக்கிய மன்றம் எத்தனையோ சேவைகளை வழங்கி இருக்கிறது. ஆனால், தமிழர்களுக்காக, எங்களின் ஆணிவேராக இருந்த தமிழ் நாட்டு மண்ணுக்காக சேவை புரிவதில் கிடைக்கும் மன நிறைவு, அது ஒரு தனி சிறப்பு.
மனம் மயக்கும் மண் வாசனையோடு திருநல்வேலிக்கு வந்து சேர்ந்த நாங்கள், Society Change and Development (SCAD) என்ற ஒரு அரசு சாரா அமைப்புடன் சேர்ந்து எங்கள் சேவையை தொடங்கினோம். இந்த அமைப்பு நரிக்குறவர் குழந்தைகளுக்காக கட்டிய ஒரு பள்ளியில் சுவாரசியமான ஒரு விளையாட்டு பொம்மைகள் நூலகத்தை காட்டுவதுதான் எங்கள் இலக்கு.
ஆட்டம், பாட்டம், கொண்டாட்டம் என்று பண்டிகைகளுக்கும் கொண்டாட்டங்களுக்கும் அதிக முக்கியத்துவம் கொடுக்கும் இந்த நரிக்குறவர் சமூகத்தில் கல்விக்கு அதிக முக்கியத்துவம் கிடையாது. எனவே, அவர்களின் கிராமத்தின் மத்தியிலேயே பள்ளிக்கூடம் கட்டியும் பள்ளிக்கு வருவோரின் எண்ணிக்கை என்னவோ குறைவுதான். எனவே, பிள்ளைகளுக்கு கல்வியை மேலும் சுவாரசியமாக வழங்கி, அவர்களை பள்ளிக்கு வந்து ஆர்வத்தோடு படிக்க தூண்டுவதே எங்கள் குழுவின் நோக்கமாகும்.
இதில் நாங்கள் எதிர்கொண்ட சவால்கள் பல. எவ்வளவுதான் முன்பாகவே ஏற்பாடு செய்தாலும், அந்தந்த நேரத்தில் பல புதிய இன்னல்களை சந்திக்க நேரிட்டது. எனினும், எங்கள் மனம் தளராமல் விடா முயற்சியோடு செயல்பட்டது. சுவரை சுத்தம் செய்து, கண்ணை கவரும் பல பொம்மைகளை சுவரில் வரைந்து, சிங்கையில் இருந்து ஏராளமான பொம்மைகளை கொண்டுவந்து, அந்த வகுப்பறையையே புதுப்பொழிவுபடுத்தினோம். அதோடு, எங்களுக்கு அன்பை வரையறை இன்றி அல்லி தந்த அன்பு குழந்தைகள் மனம் மகிழ, சுவாரசியமான சில விளையாட்டுகளையும், நடவடிக்கைகளையும் நாங்கள் ஏற்பாடு செய்து வெற்றிகரமாக நாங்கள் எங்கள் சேவையை அவர்களுக்கு வழங்கினோம். இது தொடர்ந்து, ஆரவாரத்தோடு இறுதி நாள் அன்று எங்கள் பொம்மைகள் நூலகம் திறந்துவைக்கப்பட்டது.
குழந்தைகள் சந்தோஷத்தில் துள்ளி குதித்து நூலகத்தில் உள்ள விளையாட்டு பொம்மைகளை வைத்து விளையாடிய அந்த காட்சி இன்னும் எங்கள் கண்ணுக்குள்ளேயே இருக்கிறது. வசதி வாய்ப்புகள் அவர்களிடத்தில் குறைவாக இருக்கலாம். ஆனால், குழந்தைகளின் பிஞ்சு மனம் காட்டும் அன்பை காணும்போது, பகிர்ந்துகொண்டாலும் குறையாத அன்பு - என்ற சொத்து கொண்ட இவர்களே உண்மையில் பணக்காரர்கள் என்று நாங்கள் உணர்ந்துகொண்டோம். நாங்கள் செய்த இந்த சிறு உதவியையும் இவ்வளவு உற்சாகத்தோடு ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளும் உயர்ந்த மனப்பான்மை இவர்களிடத்தில்தான் உள்ளது.
பாசத்தின் ஆழத்தையும் சேவையின் உண்மமையான மனநிறைவையும் எங்களுக்கு அளித்த இந்த அனுபவம் என்றும் எங்கள் மனதில் வேரூன்றி இருக்கும்.
