Aram 2019
NTU Tamil Literary Society’s Overseas Community Involvement Programme (OCIP) - Aram 2019 was partnered with Youth Expedition Project (YEP). As part of the community service project, two Local Community Involvement Programmes (LCIPs) were conducted in Singapore and an Overseas Service in Pudukudi, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, India.
The Aram team consisting of 20 dedicated and passionate students, planned and executed the first LCIP for students from SINDA at the Indian Heritage Centre (IHC). Ice-breaking bonding games, storytelling session and a heritage tour around the IHC was conducted by our team for the students. At the end of the day, the students found the programme worthwhile and engaging, and were looking forward to more such programmes.
The agenda of the overseas service of Aram 2019 was to cater to the needs of a school and the local villagers of Pudukudi. Working with SCAD (Social Change And Development), the partnering organization in India, the team refurbished the only primary school in Pudukudi, Ganapathy School. As part of the refurbishment project, walls of the classrooms were painted with colours of the rainbow, designed with geometric shapes and decorated with the four seasons of the year. Furniture, books and stationeries were also provided to the students by the team, in the aim to provide the students with a conducive environment to learn.
Apart from the refurbishment, dance fitness sessions were also conducted for the students to encourage a healthy lifestyle. Show And Tell as well as storytelling sessions were conducted every morning in the aim to encourage them to speak in English. A mini fun-fair filled with interesting and value-added games were also conducted as part of the interactive segment.
Besides the interaction with the students of the school, the team took an initiative to engage with the locals of the village. The livelihood of the people in Pudukudi were primarily dependent on saree weaving. A workshop on social media was conducted to educate the locals with the skills to market their handloom to reach a wider market.
Post the overseas trip, a second LCIP programme was conducted in Singapore in which the students got to know more about the different cultures in Singapore. Students dressed up in traditional Indian attire played Chapteh, five stones and learnt about the various Indian spices and their benefits.
திரைகடல் ஓடியும் திரவியம் தேடு என்ற பெரியோர் கூற்றுக்கு ஏற்றபடி நம் பெற்றோர், பாட்டி, தாத்தா என அனைவரும் சிங்கைக்கு வந்தார்கள். ஆனால், நாம் நம் தாய்மொழி தமிழ் பிறந்த தமிழ்நாட்டை மறந்துவிட முடியுமா? அதனால் தான், ஆண்டுதோறும் NTU தமிழ் இலக்கிய மன்ற மாணவர்கள் ‘அறம்’ என்ற வெளிநாட்டு சமூக சேவை திட்டத்தில் ஈடுபடுகின்றனர். மாணவர்களாய் தங்களால் இயன்றவரை மற்றவர்களுக்கு உதவி செய்யவேண்டும் என்ற நோக்கத்துடன் ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டு இத்திட்டம் நடத்தப்பட்டுவருகிறது. இவ்வாண்டு அறம் திட்டம், YEP அதாவது Youth Expedition Project - அவர்களின் ஆதரவுடன் சிறப்பாக நடத்தப்பட்டது.
இந்தியாவில் கால் வைப்பதற்கு முன், சிங்கப்பூர் தொடக்கப்பள்ளி மாணவர்களுக்காக ஒரு உள்ளூர் சமூக சேவையை நடத்தினர். இந்திய மரபுடைமை நிலையத்தில், SINDA-வுடன் ஏற்பாடு செய்திருந்த இந்நிகழ்ச்சியில் நமது இந்திய மரபுடைமையை பற்றி மாணவர்களுக்கு மேலும் தெரிவிக்க, ஒரு மரபுடைமை சுற்றுப்பயணம் அறம் குழுவால் நடத்தப்பட்டது. அதோடு, சுவாரஸ்யமான கதை சொல்லும் நேரமும் மாணவர்களுக்காக நடத்தப்பட்டது.
அதன் பிறகு அறம் திட்டத்தின் வெளிநாட்டு அங்கம் தொடங்கியது. தமிழ் நாட்டிலுள்ள SCAD (Social Change And Development) என்ற அரசு சாரா அமைப்பு ஒன்றுடன் சேர்ந்து, திருநெல்வேலியிலுள்ள புதுக்குடி என்ற ஒரு கிராமத்தில் தங்கள் சேவையை ஆற்றினர். அவர்கள் சென்ற இந்த கிராமத்தில் ஒரே ஒரு தொடக்கப்பள்ளிதான் இருக்கிறது. கணபதி தொடக்கப்பள்ளி என்ற பெயர்கொண்ட இந்த பள்ளிக்கூடத்தில், பிள்ளைகள் படிப்பதற்கான வசதிகள் மிகவும் குறைவாகவே இருந்தது. எனவே, அங்குள்ள அறைகளுக்கும் சுவர்களுக்கும் வண்ணம் தீட்டி, ஒட்டுமொத்த பள்ளியையே புதுப்பித்து கொடுத்துள்ளனர். அதோடு, பிள்ளைகள் படிப்பதற்கு புத்தகங்கள், எழுதும் பொருட்கள் போன்றவனவற்றை அளித்து, கற்றலுக்கு உகந்த சூழலை அவர்களுக்கு அமைத்துக்கொடுத்தனர்.
மேலும், அங்கு புதுப்பிக்கும் பணியில் ஈடுபட்டிருந்த நாட்களில் தினம்தோறும் பிள்ளைகளின் மொழி வளம் கூட, தமிழில் கதைகள் கூறி, அதில் ஆங்காங்கே ஆங்கிலத்தையும் நம் மாணவர்கள் கற்றுக்கொடுத்தனர். இதன்மூலம் பிள்ளைகளிடம் மொழி ஆர்வத்தை தூண்டுவது மட்டும் இல்லாமல், இன்றைய காலத்துக்கு தேவையான ஆங்கில மொழியையும் கற்றுக் கொடுத்தனர்.
அதோடு, பிள்ளைகளின் உடல் நலனை மேம்படுத்த ஆடலுடன் உடற்பயிற்சி என்ற உடற்பயிற்சி வழக்கத்தை கற்றுத்தந்துள்ளனர். அதாவது, வழக்கமான சும்பா (Zumba), ஏரோபிக்ஸ் (Aerobics) போன்ற உடற்பயிற்சி வழக்கம்போல, நம் தமிழ் குத்துப் பாடல்களுக்கு ஆடுவதை நம் மாணவர்கள் ஒரு உடற்பயிற்சி முறையாக வழங்கி, அதற்கு தகுந்த உடல் அசைவுகளை அவர்களுக்கு கற்றுக்கொடுத்தனர். இது உண்மையில் பிள்ளைகள் அனைவருக்கும் புதிய உற்சாகத்தை அளித்தது என்றுதான் சொல்லவேண்டும்.
மேலும், அக்கிராமத்தில் சேலை நெசவுதான் பிரதான வருமானம் ஈட்டும் தொழிலாக திகழ்ந்து வருகிறது. ஆனால் அங்கு வாழும் இளைஞர்கள் பாரம்பரிய நெசவுத் தொழிலில் ஈடுபட விரும்புவதில்லை என அறிந்துகொண்ட நம் மாணவர்கள், அவர்களுக்காக பயிலரங்கு ஒன்றை நடத்தினர். சமூக ஊடகம் வாயிலாக நெய்யப்பட்ட சேலைகளை உலக மக்களுக்கு விளம்பரப்படுத்தும் உத்திகளை அங்குள்ள இளைஞர்களுக்கு கற்றுக்கொடுத்தனர்.
இந்தியாவில் வெற்றிகரமாக சேவையைப் பணிபுரிந்த அறம் குழு, சிங்கப்பூருக்கு திரும்பி வந்ததும், சிங்கப்பூர் தொடக்க நிலை மாணவர்களுக்காக இன்னொரு உள்ளூர் சேவை திட்டத்தை, இயூ டீ சமூக மன்றத்தில் ஏற்பாடு செய்திருந்தது. இந்நிகழ்ச்சியில் பங்கேற்ற மாணவர்கள், சிங்கப்பூரில் இருக்கும் வெவ்வேறு கலாச்சார நடைமுறைகளைப்பற்றி அறிந்துக்கொண்டனர்.
தங்களால் முடிந்தவரை உதவி, அவர்கள் வாழ்க்கையில் ஒரு சிறிய மாற்றத்தை உண்டாக்கினார்கள் என்ற நம்பிக்கையுடனும் திருப்தியுடனும் அறம் 2019 விடைபெறுகிறது. அறம் பயணம் தொடரும்!
