Artificial Intelligence (AI) is advancing very quickly, and the world is engaging in a variety of research to enhance and improve our lives. AI also has a great potential to contribute towards the development of Tamil people, the language and culture. This is why NTU Tamil Literary Society and NUS Tamil Language Society came together to present this event, Tamil +AI where many student experts in the AI field came together to present the revolution that is AI.
Students from both Universities and beyond presented a variety of prototypes relating Tamil and AI. This includes Carnatic Music and Tamil Literature. 
First of all, one of the students presented a prototype where AI was taught a compilation of songs from one Raga which is used to generate new songs in the same Raga. Moreover, the AI was also given datasets of Tamil Literary works which it used to generate its own sentences in Tamil. Although still in its development stages, the prototype raised questions about the future of literature. There was also a presentation where the AI identified objects in Tamil and another prototype where AI could recognize people's emotions by analysing their facial expressions. 
To conclude the event, a discussion forum was held where various experts and students engaging in research in line with Tamil and AI came to answer questions from the crowd. There was much concern from the crowd about whether this AI could really help to develop Tamil and particularly the language. However, our panelists very enthusiastically answered all these questions and explained further on how we, the public, could help to improve the research on Tamil+AI. It was indeed a meaningful discussion which sent the audience home with questions to reflect on about AI and Tamil.
