Project Strive 2018
Being privileged with many facilities and opportunities, we often forget the difficulties faced by the less fortunate. Thus, to show our gratitude, NTU TLS engages in local community involvement programmes to give back to the community. One such initiative is Project Strive. We partnered with the People’s Association, Senja View RC as well as the Fei Yue Family Services Centre. The 4 organisations (NTU Tamil Literary Society, NUS Tamil Language Society, NUS Indian Cultural Society and SMU Tamizha) were the backbone of this Tri-uni initiative.
Through this event, we provided the lower income households living in rental flats with essential household appliances that they do not have. We also helped to clean the flats with elderly and other difficulties. Such support provided to the residents was very well received and students who came down also felt that this event has made a positive impact in their life. We felt that this was a much more meaningful way to impact our community as compared to providing food items, as this would help them in the long run.
On the final day, we conducted a Robotics workshop and a Participatory Theatre workshop to benefit the students. Finally, we ended the event with a carnival with free food and games for the residents to enjoy.
நமக்கு பல வசதிகளையும் வாய்ப்புகளையும் வழங்கி நாம் வளர்ந்திட வழிவகுத்த இந்த சமூகத்திற்கு நன்றி கூறி நம்மால் முடிந்ததை சேவை மூலம் திருப்பி கொடுப்பதே ஒரு நல்ல குடிமகனின் இன்றியமையாத கடமையாகும். அத்தகைய கடமையை ஆற்றி எங்களை சுற்றியுள்ள வசதி வாய்ப்புகள் குறைந்த சமூகத்தின் வாழ்க்கை தரத்தை உயர்த்துவதே இந்த STRIVE திட்டத்தின் முக்கிய கருப்பொருளாகும். இந்த வருடம் எங்கள் முயற்சி வலுவாக சமூகத்திடம் சென்றடைய நாங்கள் மக்கள் கழகம், செஞ்சா வியு குடியிருப்பாளர்கள் செயற்குழு, Fei Yue சமூக சேவைகள் மன்றம் ஆகிய மூன்று அமைப்புகளுடன் இணைந்து இந்த முயற்சியை மேற்கொண்டோம். இந்த சேவையின் முக்கிய தூணாக முப்பல்கலைக்கழகங்களான NTU தமிழ் இலக்கிய மன்றம், NUS தமிழர் பேரவை, NUS இந்திய கலாச்சார சங்கம் மற்றும் SMU தமிழா ஆகியவை இருந்தன.
நம்முடைய வாழ்க்கையில் நமக்கு பல வசதிகள் இருப்பதால் நாம் பெரும்பான்மை நேரங்களில் அவை கிடைத்தது எவ்வளவு பெரிய அதிர்ஷ்டம் என்பதை உணர்வதில்லை. அடிப்படையான சில வீட்டு உபகரணங்கள் கூட இல்லாமல் கஷ்டப்படும் குடும்பங்கள் பல. உணவு, கூப்பன்கள், போன்று குறுகிய காலம் மட்டும் நீடிக்கும் உதவிகள் செய்வதற்கு பதிலாக, பல நாள் உழைக்கக்கூடிய வீட்டு உபகரணங்களை வசதி குறைந்த மக்களுக்கு வழங்கி, அவர்களுக்கு தேவையான சில அடிப்படை சேவையை வழங்குவதே இந்த முயற்சியின் நோக்கம். மாணவர்களின் இன்றியமையாத உழைப்பின் காரணமாக, சுமார் பத்து வாடகைவீடு தொகுதிகளில் வசதி குறைந்த குடும்பங்களுக்கு நாங்கள் உதவினோம்.
மேலும் மூன்றாம் நாளன்று இளம் மாணவர்கள் பயன்பெற இயந்திரவியல் மற்றும் நாடக பயிலரங்குகளை நடத்தினோம். அதோடு, வசதி குறைந்த வீடுகளை சேர்ந்ததோர் குடும்பத்தோடு வந்து பகிர்ந்துகொண்டு மகிழ, நாங்கள் ஒரு இலவச விளையாட்டு மற்றும் உணவு சந்தையை ஏற்பாடு செய்திருந்தோம். இதில் பலதரப்பட்ட மக்கள் கலந்துகொண்டு சிறப்பித்தனர்.
